This design came straight out of the particular kind of exhaustion that happens when capable people are expected to keep doing more simply because they’ve proven they can. Add high expectations, impossible workloads, constant deadlines, and the occasional request to “practice self care,” and eventually even the overachievers run out of extra credit.

The clean, academic style is intentional. At first glance, it looks almost respectable. Then you read the second line.

This one is especially close to home for educators, but burnout is an equal opportunity nuisance. It works just as well for former gifted kids, recovering perfectionists, exhausted professionals, and anybody whose résumé says highly capable while their nervous system has submitted a formal complaint.

Every design has a backstory. This one did the extra credit, joined three committees, met every deadline, and would now like to be left alone.
