Blakasso Designs grew out of a hard season of burnout, Long COVID, and severe back pain. Art gave my mind somewhere else to go and gave me a reason to keep moving forward.
I started with sketching, then painting, using whatever I could afford and whatever surface would hold paint. I still work that way. Give me a big secondhand canvas and a fat brush over a tiny, expensive setup any day. The idea drives the process. Everything else is just how I get there.
Creativity has always been part of how I move through the world. I’ve worked in graphic design, writing, teaching, and even background acting, where I made up full stories for characters nobody else would ever notice. I do the same thing with my designs now.
These days, I finally have the time and freedom to follow those ideas wherever they go. That’s why Blakasso is full of humor, boundaries, gardens, animals, nostalgia, strong women, Southern weirdness, and elder Gen X sarcasm.
Every design has a backstory. And Blakasso does too.
